Uterine Blood Flow Indices in Sheep during Pregnancy

چکیده
To understand the different changes and events that occur in humans from conception until labour our experimental animal model is the ewe. Some studies use laboratory rodents, non-human primates and domestic ruminants as a model for research relevant to human pregnancies.1 Sheep, humans and other higher primates have villous interdigitation, wherein the chorion has a tree-like branching pattern, and villi either fit into endometrial crypts or are they are directly bathed in maternal blood.2 Furthermore, Pelage et al. demonstrated that the uterine vascularization of non-pregnant sheep is similar to that of women; so the sheep represents an appropriate animal model for experimental uterine artery embolization.3 The previous authors analysed the anatomy of the uterine vascularature in nonpregnant ewes by following the tributaries and anastomoses of the middle uterine artery which is considered to be the main arterial supply for the uterine vasculature. As described in Figure 1, the origin of the uterine artery from the internal iliac artery was similar to that in women.3,4

Doppler Study of Uterine Arteries Blood Flow in Patients with Unexplained Recurrent Pregnancy Loss and the Effects of Nitric Oxide Donors
Objectives: To study the uterine artery resistance and pulsation indices during the mid luteal phase in patients with history of unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss and the effects of the nitric oxide donor isosorbid mononitrite on these indices. Study Design: A cross-section, controlled observational study. Setting: Benha University Hospital, Egypt. July 2009 to July 2010. Subjects and Method...
متن کاملLocal effects of pregnancy on connexin proteins that mediate Ca2+-associated uterine endothelial NO synthesis.
UNLABELLED Uterine artery adaptations during gestation facilitate increases in uterine blood flow and fetal growth. HYPOTHESIS local expression and distribution of uterine artery connexins play roles in mediating in vivo gestational eNOS activation and NO production. We established an ovine model restricting pregnancy to a single uterine horn and measured uterine blood flow, uterine artery sh...
متن کاملThe Effects of Nitric Oxide Donors on Uterine Artery and Sub-endometrial Blood Flow in Patients with Unexplained Recurrent Abortion
BACKGROUND Nitric oxide plays a major role in increasing uterine blood flow during the luteal phase and early pregnancy. This study was done to compare uterine artery and sub-endometrial blood flow indices during the luteal phase between patients with unexplained recurrent abortion and fertile women and also to evaluate the effects of nitric oxide donors on blood flow indices in the abortion gr...

متن کاملAssessment of uterine artery blood flow in normal first-trimester pregnancies and in those complicated by uterine bleeding.
OBJECTIVE To compare uterine artery blood flow in normal first-trimester pregnancies with those complicated by uterine bleeding. METHODS Uterine artery blood flow was investigated by transvaginal color Doppler in 46 pregnant women affected by uterine bleeding and in a control group of 35 women with normal intrauterine pregnancy. Gestational age ranged from the 6th to the 12th week. Three bloo...
